Do I need to upgrade?

I do recommend that you upgrade to 2.96. Most users did not experience problems with 2.95, but there was an issue with restore. You never know when disaster might strike and you will need to restore a Readerware database. It will be easier if you are running Readerware 2.96. For this reason I recommend all users upgrade.

You are backing up your database right?

iPod® Support

iPod SupportThanks for all the great feedback on the new iPod support in Readerware.

There is one issue that has come up when creating your iPod Notes file.

Normally when you export your Readerware databases to an iPod, you simply select your iPod Notes folder.

Readerware will then create a folder for the database files, it will be called Readerware, ReaderwareAW or ReaderwareVW depending on which product you are running.

This is the recommended way to transfer your databases to your iPod, it keeps your Readerware database separate from any other files you might have in your Notes folder and it means that the databases are easily accessible on your iPod. You just have to select Notes, then Readerware or ReaderwareAW or ReaderwareVW.

Some users are creating an intermediate folder for their Readerware databases, for example My Databases. There is nothing wrong in doing this but Readerware does expect that the path you specify exists. So you must create the folder on your iPod first. You create it just like you would create a folder on any hard drive.

The only side effect of creating another folder is that you add an extra menu item in Notes, you must select Notes then My Databases then Readerware to access your database. Because Readerware automatically creates a separate folder for you and keeps your databases separate, it is not necessary to create your own folder.

Palm(tm) Z22 handheldFAQ: Will Readerware work on the new Palm Z22 PDA?

A lot of users have asked if Readerware will run on the new Palm Z22 PDA.

For those of you who are not familiar with it, the Z22 is a new low cost PDA from Palm. It costs $99 and includes a color screen, 32MB of memory and a rechargeable battery. It is small and light and includes all the normal Palm applications. It works with Windows XP/2000 and Mac OS X.

It will run all the Readerware Palm applications, you can take your databases with you wherever you go.

Running Multiple Instances of Readerware

Readerware was not designed to let you run multiple copies of the program at the same time. However on Windows there was nothing preventing this until Readerware 2.95. That added a check to ensure that Readerware was not already running.

This was added because some users started Readerware for a second time not realizing that it was already running. Although it will not damage a database, it caused confusion and some users found that there were updating a different database without realizing it. So the check was added to 2.95

Other users though had been running multiple copies of Readerware all along, opening different databases. It is not a problem, as long as you understand that you have multiple databases open and ensure you are updating the correct database.

Readerware 2.96 maintains the single copy check. To support users who want to run multiple copies of Readerware a patch is available. You can download and install this over your current installation and you will again be able to run multiple copies of Readerware. You will need to reapply this patch whenever you upgrade Readerware.

Readerware Support

There is nothing more important than answering your questions. You can always e-mail support@readerware.com and expect a reply in a couple of hours. 24 hours maximum. Unfortunately e-mail communications are not as reliable as they once were. Spam and the various schemes people have dreamed up to combat spam are interfering with normal e-mail communications.

If you have not received a response to your support request within 24 hours, something has gone wrong.
If you have not received a response within 24 hours, don't wait any longer, send a follow up e-mail or post to the Readerware message forums. If possible try and include an alternate e-mail address. I will re-send your answer from another e-mail server to all addresses you specify.

Obviously Spam is a real problem. But it is important to realize that none of the defense mechanisms are anywhere near 100% accurate. There is nothing more frustrating for you than feeling ignored, you aren't being ignored. Every e-mail you send is answered promptly. From this end there is nothing more frustrating than taking the time to create a reply that is never seen then getting a "why aren't you responding" e-mail a couple of days later.

All support e-mail is answered within 24 hours, if you don't get that response, check your anti-spam measures and try again.

Thanks.
