Importing Past Purchases
Readerware can now import your past purchases from
amazon.com and amazon.co.uk. This new feature is a great way to get
started with Readerware products, you can have all your past purchases
cataloged in no time.
Select Web->Import
Past
Purchases from the menu bar. The List-Catalog Wizard will guide
you
through the process. You start by selecting the site you want to import
from. You must enter your sign on information as purchase history is
only available when signed on. Readerware does not store this
information anywhere, you will need to enter it each time.
When you click on Next
Readerware connects to the site and retrieves the list of your
past purchases. You will see the titles displayed. Readerware
then goes down the list retrieving information for each item and adding
it to your database. All the items you
purchased are added to the Readerware database
automatically.
All Readerware products have this feature and each one is smart enough
to only extract the relevant items. Readerware will only retrieve your
book purchases, ReaderwareAW will get your CD purchases and
ReaderwareVW will get your DVD and video purchases.

Drag and Drop Enhancement
As you know Readerware auto-catalog works with the unique product ID,
the ISBN or LCCN for a book, the UPC for a CD or video.
But if an item doesn't have a product number or you can't find it using
the number, you can catalog the item using drag and drop. Search at any
supported site and then drag the URL from your browser and drop it on
the Readerware bulls
eye icon in the top right hand corner of the main window. Readerware
will retrieve the contents of the page and add the item to your
database automatically.
This works with the vast majority of browsers, Netscape, IE, Safari
etc. But there are some browsers like Opera that do not support drag
and drop between applications.
Readerware 2.86 introduces another way to do this. Copy the URL to the
clipboard and then paste the URL into Readerware. Right click on the
bulls eye icon and select Paste from the
popup menu. Mac OS X users
should control click. Readerware will then catalog the item for you in
exactly the same way.
So if your browser of choice does not support drag and drop, you can
still use it with Readerware. Some users may prefer this approach over
drag and drop. Sometimes with a lot of windows open it can be difficult
to drag from one window to another, now you can copy/paste.
FAQ: How can I display items in the order
they were entered?
Another one from the FAQ file. There are times when you would really
like to sort your database or current search results in the order they
were entered rather than alphabetically.
For example, when Readerware auto-catalog completes, it displays a list
of all the new items. The list is sorted in the normal sequence. Maybe
you now want to go through the books you just cataloged and edit the
entries. Your books are stacked in the order you scanned them, how can
you display the search results in the same order?
The quick answer is click on the Row Number column header to sort your
search results in
the order they were entered.
Readerware assigns a unique sequential number to each item as it is
added to the database. So to sort items in the order they were entered
into the system, just sort on this column. Click on the Row Number
column
header to sort in ascending sequence, click again to sort in descending
sequence.
If the Row Number column is not visible, right click on a column
header, (control click on Mac OS X), and select the Row Number column
from the Show popup
menu. You can also edit the view and add it using preferences. Select
the Preferences menu
item and then
the Views tab.
Select the view you want to edit in the left
list. In the right list look for the "ROWKEY" column. A green
check
mark indicates the column is displayed, a red X indicates that it is
hidden.
Double click on the column name to toggle the display. You can use
the arrow keys to change the position of the column in the view.
New Sites
Lots
of new video sites have been added in this release.
You can now auto-catalog your video collection using IMDb. It has been
available for some time with drag and drop, now you can also
auto-catalog from IMDb.
Michael's Movie Mayhem claims to have listings for almost 35,000 region
1 DVDs. Backed by IMDb, the site offers great information and cover art
for a lot of titles. Check them out, the site is available with both
auto-catalog and drag and drop.
The search for good Australian DVD sites continues. Readerware 2.86
adds support for FBO Entertainment by way of DVD Plaza. Both
auto-catalog and drag and drop support is available. Great listings and
cover art, finally a good auto-catalog source for Australian DVDs.
Be sure to check out the following sites. If you like their listings,
support the sites.

Mac OS X News
Lots of new products from Apple lately. Readerware 2.86 includes a
couple of tweaks for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and the new G5 Power Macs.
The good news regarding Panther is that Readerware runs great, there
are performance improvements and some bug fixes. The problem with bad
fonts that a number of you ran into when launching the Readerware
report writer seems to have been fixed.
But unfortunately there is also a problem. The Panther installer is
failing to upgrade Java on some systems. It disables the Jaguar Java
and then fails to install Panther Java. The result is that no Java
applications will run on affected systems. I have no idea how
widespread this problem is, but it is affecting some Readerware users.
All machines here upgraded without a problem.
There are some solutions available on the Readerware web site. Apple is
aware of the problem. They will apparently be releasing a manual fix
shortly followed by a Panther upgrade. Check with
Apple support for more information.
