Welcome to The Readerware Newsletter.
Readerware for the Palm Pilot
Readerware is proud to announce the release of Readerware for the Palm Pilot.
With Readerware for the Palm Pilot you can easily transfer your current Readerware database to your Palm
Pilot. Readerware for the Palm Pilot then enables you to browse and search your database. You can see
summary information as well as a detail display for each book in your collection.
Your Readerware shopping cart is also transferred to your Palm Pilot. Use it to keep track of new
releases you are interested in, your want list etc. Then have it at your finger tips on your next visit
to your favorite brick and mortar bookstore. Now your Readerware database is mobile, you can easily take
it with you wherever you go.
Readerware for the Palm Pilot is an optional add on for Readerware. It is not a standalone product
because there is currently no way to create your database in Readerware for the Palm Pilot, it relies on
the desktop version of Readerware to actually create the database. That may change in future releases.
There are a lot of possibilities going forward. Did you know there are actually bar code readers you can
get for Palm Pilots? Imagine being able to simply scan a book into your database as you pick it up off
of the shelf. Just one of the possible future directions for Readerware for the Palm Pilot. As always,
your feedback will dictate future directions.

Palm Pilot Hardware Requirements
Readerware for the Palm Pilot has been tested on Palm Pilot models with both 2MB and 8MB of memory. How
much memory you will need will of course depend on the size of your database and the mix of other
applications you have installed.
Readerware for the Palm Pilot has been tested on both Palm units and the Handspring Visor. In theory it
should work on any device running the Palm OS.
A typical Readerware database with over 1500 entries requires about 250KB or memory.
If you don't already own a Palm Pilot or Handspring Visor, you can lean more about both products by
following the links on the Readerware web site. http://www.readerware.com/rwpalmfeat.html
Readerware 1.80
Readerware 1.80 includes:
- Palm Pilot support, you can now export your Readerware database to a Palm Pilot PDB file for
use with Readerware for the Palm Pilot.
- New proxy configuration dialog which replaces the old command line options
- Fixed a problem accessing the Barnes and Noble web site
- Fixed a problem with displaying help from modal dialogs.
Palm Pilot Support
A new export option allows you to create a Palm Pilot PDB file from all or parts of your Readerware
database. The PDB file also includes your Readerware shopping cart where you can track want lists etc.
This Palm Pilot version of your Readerware database can then be transferred to your Palm Pilot using the
install or HotSync utility that came with it.
Once on your Palm Pilot you can browse and search your entire database. Next time you see something
interesting at a local bookstore, you will know immediately whether or not you have it, which edition,
condition etc.
New Proxy Support
Readerware has always supported access to the internet via a proxy server, but you used to have to
configure this support with command line options. Readerware 1.80 now includes a proxy configuration
dialog so that it is now much easier to configure Readerware for use with a proxy server.
Barnes and Noble
A problem accessing the Barnes and Noble web site from within the Readerware browser should be fixed in
this release.
Barcode Readers
The Readerware web site barcode reader page has been updated with information on serial barcode readers.
Full information is on the web site. http://www.readerware.com/rwbarcode.html
