CS-1504 Windows USB InstallationThe CS-1504 is a serial device. The USB version that Symbol ships is the serial scanner with a serial to USB adapter. Symbol have used two different serial to USB adapters, they require different drivers.USB Drivers for CS1504-I100-0001 and Cable CPN 25-50027-01Symbol only provides USB drivers for Windows 98 and Windows 2000.You can download the USB drivers from:
Symbol Windows 98 Driver These are self extracting files. Simply double click on the downloaded file to extract the driver files into a temporary directory. USB Drivers for CS 1504-I100-0002 and Cable PN 50-16000-386Symbol provide drivers for Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP.You can download the USB drivers from:
Symbol Windows 98/ME Driver These are self extracting files. Simply double click on the downloaded file to extract the driver files into a temporary directory. Symbol CS-1504 USB Hardware InstallationNow plug the CS-1504 into any available USB port. When you first connect the device to your computer, Windows will display the new hardware found wizard. Select the option to install from a specific location and select the temporary directory you unpacked the device driver to. Then follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation of the barcode reader. The Symbol USB drivers work by emulating a serial port. Once the hardware and driver are installed, check the Windows device manager to determine which serial port the scanner is using. This is the port you must select in the Readerware Scanner Upload dialog. Or you can simply try all ports until the scanner responds. ScanningScanning is simple, just press and hold the larger button and point the device at the barcode. A red line will be visible over the barcode. The reader will beep when it has read the code.To use either device with Readerware, start Readerware auto-catalog. When you get to the item input page, click on the Upload button. The Readerware Scanner Upload dialog will be displayed. Select your scanner model and the port it is connected to. Click on Upload and press the smaller button on the scanner. That is all there is to it. Readerware will connect to the scanner and upload the barcodes to your PC. When it finished click OK to close the dialog and load the barcodes directly into the auto-catalog wizard. As always, full information is provided in the online help.
